Ms Amanda AfoapPeterson our practice nurse has been trained to help you stop and NHS Stop-smoking Centers are free. Your local one for Kensington and Chelsea can be accessed by contacting the Kick It helpline (Web:www.kick-it.org.uk, Tel:020 3434 2500 or Email:hello@kick-it.org.uk) where you can have direct access to stop smoking courses or can get details of your closest adviser.
The official NHS site is the NHS UK site www.nhs.uk, they can also be contacted by telephone on 0800 169 0169. The site takes a look at the process of stopping smoking, the facts about tobacco and cigarettes and has a comprehensive question and answer section.

A few tips on quitting:
- Set a date and time to stop, and stick to it. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about whether the proven drug treatments might suit you.
- Find out if there is a stop-smoking clinic near you
- Enlist the help of your friends and family.
- Avoid situations in which you used to reach for a cigarette.
- If you need to, ease the withdrawal symptoms with nicotine patches, gum or ecigarettes.
Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) products such as patches, gums, nasal sprays and inhalers are available from your local pharmacist, who can also advise you on their use as can our surgery nurse. There are also a number of free National help lines funded by the NHS where specialist counsellors can discuss the process of quitting smoking. There are also the new cigarettes that provide the nicotine without the tar.
